India achieved a 6.6% growth in electricity generation in FY10 despite a below-than-expected performance by the hydropower sector owing to poor monsoon. The country generated 6,40,523 million units (mu) electricity between April 2009 and March 2010 , compared with 5,90,101 mu during the preceding fiscal. The gas-based plants registered record performance on increased supply of natural gas from Reliance KG D6 block. These plants generated 32.6% more electricity in the period, compared with the preceding year. After gas-based power generation segment, the N-power plants turned in the impressive growth, 27% more electricityin FY 10, because of enhanced import of uranium.
