Pitney Bowes, a global leader in providing mail room equipment and software, is waiting for the department of Post and Telegraph? s approval to launch India?s first print-to-post digital franking machine.

?India Post has approved our model, but we are awaiting final clearance. We hope to launch it soon,? said KM Nanaiah, managing director, Pitney Bowes India.

The $5.6 billion company has already tied up with the department of Post and Telegraph to launch India ?s first print-to-post service. The digital franking machines will be equipped with remote resetting technology.

Pitney Bowes, which had entered India in 2004, has a client base including state governments of West Bengal , Orissa, Maharashtra , Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa. ?Apart from postal service sectors like telecom, banking & financial services sectors are promising,? he said.

The US-based firm, which sells franking machines to national postal operators around the globe, had sales of $100 million in Asia Pacific region and is planning to reach $250 million by 2012.

?We are also looking at introducing intelligent inserting machines [Advanced Productivity Series and Mailstream Productivity Series]. Apart from that we also have plans to launch inbound mail solutions by January next year,? Nanaiah said. Pitney Bowes has 60% share of the postal franking machines market in India .

?Our target is to extend reach to the block level by 2012,? he said. The mailstream industry in India is pegged at around Rs 1,000 crore.
