In the three months that Philadelphia Periodontist Dr. David Digiallorenzo has treated patients with the PerioLase dental laser, the results have been phenomenal.

Diagiallorenzo has treated about 50 cases with PerioLase, a dental laser manufactured by Millennium Dental Technologies.

“The results are nothing short of fantastic,” he said. “Patient satisfaction is 100 percent, with no cutting, bleeding and suturing and no post-op pain.”

The PerioLase is ideal for treating gum infections and for removing overgrown tissues around teeth that can be caused by some medications, including those used to treat heart disease and seizures. The dental laser also creates ideal cosmetic gum lines prior to cosmetic dentistry, he added.

Digiallorenzo, a Philadelphia dental implants specialist, became the first specialist in the greater Philadelphia area this year to offer laser treatment for gum disease.

“This has been a wonderful option to offer patients because it makes for a far less invasive procedure,” he said. “Gone is the need to cut the gums and then suture them back.”

For patients, this means a less painful procedure and a quicker healing process. The dental laser technique creates a non-surgical, simple, pain-free method to treat gum disease in one visit under sedation, Digiallorenzo said.

Traditional gum disease treatment methods required peeling back the gums in order to reach the patient’s tooth roots and bone. After the procedure was completed, Digiallorenzo had to suture the gum tissue back into place.
