The Pailan Group, which is into a wide range of businesses including technical education, has decided to foray into the production of short films and also offer film direction courses in the current academic session. It is setting up a studio near the Pailan College of Management & Technology.

The films and telefilms would be produced under the banner of Apurba Productions, named after founder-chairman Apurba Saha.

Saha told FE that Rs 12 crore has been spent on the studio.

The courses would include film direction, production, acting, camera works among others. Candidates should have studied up to Class 8.

The duration of the courses would range from six months to a year. The faculty would include eminent directors, actors and technicians from the state’s film industry.

The target is to train 500 students this year as “there is a shortage of skilled technicians in the industry,” he said.
