The Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH), the US-based non-profit pharmaceutical company that develops drugs for people with infectious diseases in the developing world, today announced the appointment of Dr. Rajshankar Ghosh as India Country Director. Dr. Ghosh will oversee all programs, staff and operations in India, and spearhead OneWorld Health’s partnerships and government relations activities in that country. Dr. Ghosh’s appointment is a reflection of OneWorld Health’s commitment to bringing new tools to help combat infectious diseases in India and around the world.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Raj as a member of OneWorld Health’s executive management team,” said Dr. Ahvie Herskowitz, OneWorld Health’s co-founder and Chief Medical Officer. “In addition to his impressive public health background, he brings a comprehensive understanding of India’s health system from the grassroots level up. His experience will make a valuable contribution to our mission and programs.”

Dr. Ghosh brings 15 years’ public health experience to the India Country Director position. Prior to joining OneWorld Health, he was the Senior Program Manager of PATH’s Japanese Encephalitis project in India. He also served as director of PATH’s immunization project in India, providing managerial and technical support to the immunization teams working on the Cervical Cancer, Immunization Health Systems and Children’s Vaccine projects. Prior to his tenure at PATH, Dr. Ghosh served in the State Government Health Services in West Bengal and with the World Health Organization.

Dr. Ghosh has a bachelor in Medicine and Surgery and has obtained professional training from the Indian Institute of Health Management and Research and the Indian Institute of Public Health. He has also completed certification programs through Stanford University, USAID and John Hopkins University related to Infectious Disease Surveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation and Diarrheal Disease.
