State-owned Orissa Hydro Power Corp (OHPC) surpassed the generation target by 1140.2874 million units (MUs) during the first half of the current fiscal. The OHPC generated 4097.2874 MUs during the April-September 2007 period as against the target of 2957 MUs fixed by the Central Electricity Authority. It generated 7541 MUs during 2006-07, the highest ever in the history of the company.

The Rengali hydro electric station of the OHPC generated 563.01432 MUs during the first half of the current fiscal as against the annual design energy of 525 MUs.

“The record generation of the OHPC at the cheapest rate (52 paise/unit) is not only beneficial to the state’s economy, but also to consumers”, said OHPC chairman-cum-managing director LN Gupta. The

OHPC is contributing about 45% of annual energy requirement of Orissa. Besides, it also provides about 70% of the peak power requirement of the state grid.

To add to its performance during H1 of 2007-08, the OHPC generated 1724.1817mw on October 18, 2007, the highest ever daily generation since its inception.
