Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she has no intention of returning to the helm of the Delhi Congress. But, she believes that the need of the hour is to end the ?stalemate? over government formation in Delhi.
Speaking to Newsline, Dikshit ? who resigned as the governor of Kerala last week ? said a government formed through electoral majority was ideal.
?It will be good if an elected governments comes to power in Delhi. That would be an ideal situation,? she said.
But she admitted that the situation in Delhi, with no one party having clear majority, was ?complicated?. ?The stalemate isn?t good for Delhi. The situation in Delhi is complicated and it is a fact that the people of Delhi are suffering due to the lack of a government,? she said.
After returning to Delhi from Thiruvananthapuram, Dikshit had said it was the prerogative of the Congress High Command to decide her future role in the party. The statement had led to speculation regarding her return to politics in Delhi.
But she said, ?I have no intention at all of returning to politics in Delhi. Though I think that the time should be used by the party to prepare better for the future.?
Commenting on the latest development in the matter ? wherein Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb sent a report to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking permission to call the single largest party to form a government, despite being well short of the majority ? Dikshit said it wasn?t the first time that a minority government would be formed in a state.
?It has happened earlier ? not in Delhi, but in other states. It is not the ideal situation. There is a provision for this and the Lieutenant-Governor could invite a secret ballot,? she said.
While tendering her resignation as the governor of Kerala, Dikshit had refused to comment on the Congress?s defeat in Assembly elections last year. On Friday, she stressed on the need to look forward and said the Congress needed to ?make up for the loss? and ?prepare for the future? through changes in organisation and structure.
