Mumbai will be toll-free once the loan taken for construction of fly-overs is repaid with interest, Maharashtra Legislative Council was informed.

The toll tax collection has been allowed till 2027 vide a notification, Public Works (Public Undertakings) Minister Anil Deshmukh told the House.

He was replying to a discussion initiated by Vinod Tawade (BJP) and others. Deshmukh said total expenditure on construction of fly-overs in the commercial capital was Rs 1,308 crore while the recovery was Rs 1,185 crore.

The remaining recovery of Rs 123 crore is to be made and the interest of Rs 1,800 crore has to be repaid. Considering these aspects, Mumbai is expected to be toll-free by 2027, he said.
