The ministry of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSME) will soon present the high-powered task force report on implementation of the new Prime Minister?s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The high-powered task force, constituted by the Prime Minister, has specified the areas where implementation of the new credit-linked subsidy PMEGP could meet roadblocks.
Speaking to fe on Wednesday, MSME minister Dinsha Patel, who was here to attend the closing ceremony of the Khadi Mahotsav, said the high-powered task force will meet in Delhi on Thursday.
?There could be delays in granting bank credit, delays in payment being made to the MSME sector by big industries including issues involving interest payment by the latter, as also labour issues; all such problematic areas would be sorted out by the Prime Minister himself,? said Patel.
The new five-year credit and subsidy-linked PMEGP; formed by merging the two schemes that were in operation till March 31, 2008— Prime Minister?s Rojgar Yojana and Rural Employment Generation Programme; for generation of employment opportunities through establishment of micro enterprises in rural as well as urban areas envisages a budget of Rs 4,745 crore and is to be implemented by the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).
According to the MSME minister, NSIC, which has more than 100 offices in the country, would be looking into all aspects of the individual?s endeavour including suggesting the enterprise location, where to sell, sources of raw materials, etc, and would also sort out issues like availability of land, water besides streamlining bank credit for the enterprise.
While district collectors are empowered to look after the implementation of the PMEGP, the scheme also involves banks, zila panchayat and state government officials.
There are around 2.60 crore micro, small and medium enterprises in the country today.
