After Nashik, the worker?s at Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)?s Igatpuri plant have resorted to tool-down strike. The company in a filing on BSE on Wednesday said: ?There has been a stoppage of work at the company?s Igatpuri plant due to a tool-down strike by the union.? The strike started from April 9.
M&M said the strike was resorted to ?post the suspension of two workmen on disciplinary grounds one of them being an union office bearer?.
A source in the union said, ?Strife between two union leaders led to management suspending them. The workers went on tool-down strike post the suspension and have been demanding taking back of the two workers by the management.?
?The company is in constant dialogue with the union for an early solution of the issue,? the filing said.
M&M makes engines and transmissions for its utility vehicle (UV) range at Igatpuri. It said in the filing it currently has ?sufficient stock of engines for production of its vehicles.?
Meanwhile, M&M is in process of inking a new wage agreement with the workmen at Nashik plant. The company has given April 15 deadline for the finalising the new wage agreement. The workmen at Nashik had resorted to a two-day long tool-down strike in early March demanding wage hike. From earlier demand of R36,000 increase across various levels in wages, the workmen have reduced their demand to R20,000.
Pravin Shah, CEO, M&M, had said recently that the talks were on and a decision was soon to be arrived. M&M produces its SUVs, pick-ups and sedan Verito at the Nashik plant. The production is Nashik is dependent on Igatpuri from where it gets the engines for the products.
