Mentha oil prices rose by Rs 7.80 to Rs 874.90 per kg in futures trade on Monday as speculators created fresh positions, driven by a pick-up in spot demand.

Less arrivals in the physical market further fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha for delivery in July rose by Rs 7.80, or 0.90 per cent, to Rs 874.90 per kg, with a business turnover of 310 lots.

Likewise, the oil for delivery in June gained Rs 6, or 0.70 per cent, to Rs 865.20 per kg in 129 lots.

Market analysts said fresh buying by speculators on pick-up in demand from pharmaceutical units mainly led to the rise in mentha oil prices at futures trade.

They said restricted arrivals from Chandousi in Uttar Pradesh also supported the uptrend.
