The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday tabled a supplementary budgetary provision to the tune of Rs 7,559.52 crore, in which Rs 250 crore has been earmarked under the relief for natural calamity, while Rs 6.50 crore has been sanctioned for development of Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal region under the 12th Finance Commission recommendation.

This is in addition to the Rs 1,33,596.98 crore tax-free surplus budget presented by the UP government for the 2009-10 fiscal in February this year, which was 19% more than the last fiscal.

Rs 553.91 crore have been sought for the construction and beautification of different pet projects of chief minister Mayawati, including memorials, statues and parks that are being constructed in the state capital.

While Rs 55.91 crore have been earmarked for the construction of Manyawar Kanshi Ram Memorial, another Rs 57.80 crore has been sought for the beautification and development of Kanshi Ram Smriti Upvan and Rs 57.66 crore has been sought for long-term expenditure for Dr Bhimrao Ambedhar Samajik Parivartan Sthal. The government has also earmarked Rs 26.74 crore for setting up statues and murals in different memorials and parks in the state capital. Provision of Rs 199.89 crore has been made for a new eco park to be constructed on the jail premises, while Rs 56.29 crore has been demanded for additional expenditure on construction at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan. The government has sought another Rs 100 crore for all-round development of Lucknow city.

State finance minister Lalji Verma tabled the supplementary budget in the House in the absence of chief minister Mayawati.

The Assembly is expected to approve this budget on Tuesday.

In the supplementary budget, the government also proposes to purchase a new helicopter costing around Rs 10.90 crore and 25 Honda City cars worth Rs 2.03 crore for the judges of the Allahabad High Court. The government will also spend Rs 82 lakh on the renovation and decoration of the official residences of the Chief Justice and other judges of the High Court. The government would also give Rs 8.50 crore for construction of office of the Advocate General at Allahabad.

The supplementary budget also provides Rs 1.57 crore for different construction work at the Raj Bhawan, besides Rs 1 crore for setting up an Arabic-Persian University in Lucknow.

A provision of Rs 4.30 crore has been made for the installation of 81 CCTV and smart cards at the secretariat and the chief minister’s secretariat.
