New Delhi-based Max Healthcare kicked off the process of expansion beyond the National Capital Region as deputy chief minister, Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, laid the foundation stone for a super specialty hospital at Mohali on Tuesday. The company will set up another hospital at Bathinda in Punjab. The company has deposited up-front charges of Rs 4.5 crore and Rs 1.50 crore for Mohali and Bathinda hospitals respectively. The company will also offer 5% of its gross turnover every year to the state government.
Both these projects are to be completed by August 2010. It may be recalled that upgradation of medical and healthcare infrastructure an election promise of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal. The state government has already initiated a mammoth project for the modernisation of Amritsar Medical College at an investment of Rs 150 crore besides upgrading the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, at an investment of Rs 68 crore. The state government has recruited 141 super specialty medical specialists; another 100 medical officers are to be recruited through the Punjab Public Service Commission.
According to Analjit Singh, group chairman, Max India, the Mohali hospital will be set up in public-private partnership, at an estimated investment of over Rs 100 crore. The 200-bed hospital will have comprehensive primary and secondary level services in all the specialties. It will be built over 3.15 acres of land within the Civil District Hospital complex, Mohali.
