With Mahindra Satyam moving its headquarters to Mumbai, employees are worried about possible layoffs. Though the management has gone ahead with ?Power of One? campaign, highlighting togetherness, most professionals are worried about their future in the company.
A senior employee, who has been with Mahindra Satyam for the last 12 years, expressed disappointment over the management?s decision to move the headquarters to Mumbai. ?We were shocked. Though we were aware about the merger proposal, the fact that they now want to move the corporate office to Mumbai wasn?t conveyed,? he said.
Hari Thalapalli, chief people?s officer and chief marketing officer of the company, however, said the mood has been positive overall. ?This merger brings to the table increased career opportunities. The associates now have a chance to collaborate and connect with a larger opportunity landscape. For me, this is a true rise moment and a moment to celebrate Power of One.?
On the day of the merger announcement, Mahindra Satyam?s Infocity campus at Madhapur in Hyderabad, wore a festive look. The management used posters to convey the message to employees besides the usual e-mail.
It is said that company founder Ramalinga Raju was disturbed on hearing the news that the headquarters of the firm was being shifted to Mumbai. ?But he has since then realised that it is in safe hands, for now,?? a source close to Raju?s family said.
But some of the senior management team hinted job losses, especially for Raju loyalties. However, there was no confirmation on this and a senior management official dismissed this notion.
A project leader with the company said, ?We had barely come out of the accounting fraud shock and now we have to deal with the merger. It requires a mindset to accept such fast transformations.?
Another employee did not think the location of the headquarter would matter much. ?We have a pan-India presence and our customers are spread across the globe. It doesn?t matter where you are headquartered,?? he said.
