Legrand India, a subsidiary of Limoges-(France) based Legrand Group engaged in the business electrical installations and information networks, plans to open its home automation showroom in Chandigarh in the next couple of months.

Palash Nandy, all-India marketing head of Legrand, told FE that the company is aggressively looking at the northern states in view of the ?extraordinary growth? there. He said that the Chandigarh market saw a 61% growth in 2008 over 2007. Also, a study done by the company has shown that Legrand brand was most popular in the northern part of the country. Big hotels and new industrial units in the region are among the early adopters of Legrand branded products.

The company sales touched Rs 371 crore in December 2008, up from Rs 305 crore in 2007. The company has set a target of Rs 450 crore for 2009. At present, Anchor is the leader the electrical components market with about 35% share, followed by Legrand and Havells at 18 to 20% respectively.

The company provides comprehensive solutions from protection, lighting control and connection, home automation, communications, to industrial products. Legrand offers push button-cum-indicators, switches, sockets, fan regulators, dimmers, information outlets patch cords, patch panels, cabinets and lighting units. In fact, all of Chandigarh?s street lighting have Legrand protection system.

The company has manufacturing facilities at Nasik, Jalgaon and Sinur in Maharashtra. ?A manufacturing unit at Baddi in Himachal was not ruled out,? said a company official.
