Having established collaborative relations with Australia, the Union Health & Family Welfare ministry has proposed to set up an Indo-Australian Health Fund through the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to improve public health system in the country. The fund aims to work towards long-term health improvements of the Indian population and undertake large-scale health research projects in association with a range of stakeholders in the country.

Signing an MoU with the George Institute for International Health, a not-for-profit organization for establishing along with ICMR, Prof NK Ganguly, former director general of ICMR said that the proposed fund would be used to create newer technologies for improving public health.
