Haryana tourism is now trying to promote adventure tourism in the state after announcing two eco- tourism projects in August.

Beginning on the 9th of October, the state will organize its largest ever adventure camp at Tikkar Tal in Morni. The month long event will see about 320 youngsters participating in various activities like camping, trekking, rock climbing, bridge crossing, kayaking, boating etc.

Notably, this is the second such camp, the first adventure camp by the state was organised in June this year in Manali.Kiran Choudhry, minister of state for tourism, sports and forests told FE that while the neighbouring states Himachal and Uttarakhand have been actively involved in these activities, their is a need for Haryana also to develop its resources to train its youth.

Discussing the plans, she revealed that the Central government has allocated Rs 14 crore for the current financial year to Haryana. “Using this money, the Haryana government seeks to develop Hodal and Dharuhera tourist complexes for Commonwealth games to be held in 2010,” she said. Interestingly, Haryana government has already identified 9,650 hotel rooms in Gurgaon and Faridabad for the Commonwealth games in 2010 to achieve the target of 10,000 hotel rooms given to it, all this within a span of a year and half.

It is to be noted that Haryana government will also showcase its nature tourism. A state which has been deprived of natural beauty due to its geographic location is all set to develop Morni-Pinjore hills , Kalesar protected area and Sultanpur national park for nature tourism.

Notably, the Central government has sanctioned Rs 6.48 crore for these projects. In Morni and Tikkar Taal the tourist facilities will be upgradedat places like Morni fort, Lal Munia forest rest house, Tikkar and Bara Taal and Thapati nature camp . At the Sultanpur National Park, cottages, library and bird watching towers will be constructed.

At Kalesar, nature camp and nature trails would be developed. Improvement of Chauharpur herbal park and construction of water bodies shall also be taken up.
