Haryana is all set to double the capacity of the 600-mw Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram thermal power station (DCRTPS) at Yamunanagar by adding either two more units of 250/300 mw or one 660 mw unit based on supercritical technology.

Speaking at the power ministers’ conference organised at New Delhi, Haryana power and public health engineering minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said being an extension project, most of the infrastructure facilities — railway siding, raw water reservoir, land, etc, could be shared on the existing premises of DCRTPS. The cost of setting up additional units by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL) would be around Rs 2,200 to Rs 2,600 crore. He said expansion of DCRTPS would go a long way in minimising the gap between demand and supply and making Haryana self-reliant in power.

Surjewala said since Haryana was contributing significantly to the Central foodgrain pool, an additional share in the ultra mega power projects (UMPP), unallocated power and Central sector projects needs to be given to Haryana.

He also requested help in establishment of a 1500-mw gas-based generation plant in Faridabad. He said the Centre needs to amend its gas allocation policy so that greenfield gas-based generation projects like the one at Faridabad could come up in the country. He also requested the Centre to expedite the decision regarding establishment of the 2800-mw nuclear power plant in Fatehabad.

Speaking about implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Viyutikaran Yojna, he said schemes for all the 11 districts under UHBVNL and the seven districts for DHBVNL had been sanctioned for Rs 197.39 crore.
