Grain stocks at 50.34 million tonne

Foodgrain stocks with the government as on September 1 was 50.34 million tonne, up 6.47% on year, said a senior official from FCI, on Monday. Of the 50.34 million tonne, wheat comprised 29.86 million tonne and rice 20.48 million tonne. Food grain stocks as on September 1, 2009 stood at 47.28 million tonne comprising of 30.07 million tonne of wheat and 17.21 million tonne of rice.Wheat purchases made by the government till September 1 was at 22.52 million tonne, down 10.51% as farmers held back stocks and traders bought more on the expectations of high prices later.
