The government has planned to expedite the process of awarding and implementing road and highway projects. As the first step, the road transport and highways ministry is bringing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the nodal awarding agency, consultants and private companies on one platform to create a better understanding between them.

The idea is to impart training to the three stakeholders in the PPP framework, various related laws, preparation of detailed project reports, project designing, financing and implementation. The training will be imparted by National Institute for Training of Highway Engineers in six groups of 90 people each through a programme that starts from July and ends in October. ?This is the first time that we are bringing the three stakeholders at a common platform. We hope to create better understanding between them through our training programme and facilitate faster and better project award and implementation,? a senior official in the ministry said. The Rs 2.6-crore programme is to be funded by NHAI.
