At a function last week to select the Person of the Year from the world of media, marketing & advertising, the chief guest and Sebi chairman Meleveetil Damodaran made it quite clear what he hoped to see in time to come. After the AVs on the 25 contenders were shown, Damodaran said he was dis-appointed that there were not enough women among them. Given the kind of achievements women were making in media, marketing & advertising, he added, their share ought to rise sharply in the years ahead. The hall broke into spontaneous applause.

Larsen & Tourbro (L&T) dominates India?s infra-structure scenario. At an event in Mumbai to mark the com-pany?s 70th year of existence and birth centenary of its founder Henning Holck-Lar-sen, civil aviation minister Praful Patel said that L&T has become so vital to the nation?s development that his ministry ?is held to ransom? by it. ?The next time you get caught in the air when flying due to airport congestion, don?t blame me,? chuckled Patel. Incidentally, L&T is associated with the construction of four big airports in the country, all in various stages of development.

P Chidambaram, at the same event, said that L&T?s CEO, AM Naik, has 80 years of service with the company. ?I?m given to understand that Naik spends 18 hours a day at work,? he explained. ?Which he likes considered equal to two days of normal office hours. Considering that he has put in 40 years with L&T, he has surely worked double the period.?
