As FE has argued in a recent edit (Sep 19), FDA?s ruling against Ranbaxy will unfortunately raise question marks about the quality of drugs being produced by Indian manufacturers in general. As for the global side effects of this development, UK and New Zealand authorities have already announced that they will also investigate the concerned Ranbaxy products now. That the company has hired the former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani?s consulting firm to help tackle the US compliance issues is good. But, for now, Indian drug manufacturers should hunker down and pay serious attention to quality standards upgrades.
