The Irrigation and Flood Control department sounded a flood alert in the low-lying areas close to the Yamuna floodplains as the swelling river crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres, as measured at the Old Railway Bridge.
While department officials said the river was expected to touch 205 metres mark at 10 am on Saturday, they mentioned the level has already started receding as measured at the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana. ?The river had crossed 204.75 metres at 10 am on Friday; it would cross 205.0 metres at 10 am on Saturday. An alert has been sounded in the low-lying areas of the floodplains and flood control rooms have been set up at 25 locations in the danger zone. There is no need to panic. The water will start receding on Saturday,? an official of the Flood Control department said.
