An empowered group of ministers that met here on Tuesday decided to maintain a status quo on export bans on agricultural produce including non-basmati rice, edible oils and other farm products.

It also took stock of the kharif-sowing scenario in the country in the light of deficient rainfall in some states mainly, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

?We discussed sowing operations and there is some problems in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat where there were the problems of insufficient rain. However, the situation is improving with rains reviving from this week,? agriculture minister Sharad Pawar said.

Meanwhile, on export ban sources said the government plans to continue with the ban till a clear picture on rice production during the next season that starts in October is available.
