Over one-lakh students from Delhi University?s 70-odd colleges will vote for new student leaders on Friday during the Delhi University Students? Union (DUSU) polls. The student body polls have always been a grand affair, with university authorities overseeing the entire election process.

Usually, DUSU elections used to be contested between two major parties ? Congress-backed National Students? Union of India (NSUI) and right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). This year, players like the Left-wing All India Students? Association (AISA), Left Students Front and the newly- formed Chanakya Parishad are also contesting.

While both ABVP and NSUI claim to be confident of sweeping the elections, the Left parties say they have left no stone unturned to put up a good fight.

In the last DU election, ABVP had bagged the posts of president, vice-president and joint secretary, with NSUI winning only the post of secretary. AISA candidates had come third in all four seats.
