In the backdrop of the Nandigram controversy and a softening of its stand on the nuclear deal issue, the CPI(M) will hold a two-day politburo meeting here from December 3. The party will also finalise the draft of the political resolution to be discussed by the central committee, scheduled in the third week of December.
Sources in the party told FE that the current political situation after the Left party?s decision to allow the government approach the IAEA will be discussed threadbare in the meeting.
?We had considered all possible options before taking such a decision. This include a situation if the government breaches the written agreement with the Left parties that the safeguard negotiations will not continue without the Left-UPA committee?s approval. The politburo will go through these options as the government has started the negotiations with the IAEA. The Parliament debate on the issue in the end of November will also be reviewed in the meeting,? a senior leader said.
The fresh violence in Nandigram will also come under the party scanner. West Bengal secretary of the party Biman Bose had submitted a report on the developments in the last politburo, in which the chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was absent. In this meeting Bhattacharjee is likely to present and a crucial discussion on the issue is likely to happen.
However, the senior leader added that the main agenda is the nineteenth Congress of the party to be held at Coimbatore in next March.
?Last politburo initiated the discussion to prepare the draft political resolution. In the next meeting, we will complete it and it will be presented before the next central committee meeting,? the leader added.
