While the professions of DJs and engineers are based on technology and many of today?s Indian musicians who are presently visible are from the urban landscape, India still has a long way to go for technology to meaningfully reach grassroots. Basic requirements of the digital space are reliable, stable broadband facilities and electricity, which sadly are still not somethings a large part of India can take for granted.

What we need to very often be reminded of is that while technology makes creating music fun, simple, and accessible to the masses, it takes more than technology to make a musician.

I believe that mobile technology will be the backbone platform as the reach and quality of services are rapidly growing, and the media exchange that the mobile world offers will arguably be the most cost-effective distribution channel for the music industry. Having said that, there are still many large gaps in the connections, and the Indian mobile music market is still driven by hits rather than music exploration. Yes, the digital era has arrived and will continue to grow. The challenge now is to find the balance between analogue sensibilities and digital technologies.
