Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the lobby representing GSM operators, on Wednesday asked the government to appoint its representative in the Telecom Engineering Centre’s (TEC) committee on efficient use of spectrum for mobile services.
“We request that a representative of COAI be formally nominated on the TEC committee and that the representative be fully involved in the deliberations of the committee including preparation and signing off on the final report that will be submitted to the government,” COAI director general TV Ramachandran said in a letter to DS Mathur, secretary, department of telecom (DoT).
The government had last week issued new norms for allocating spectrum, which includes enhancing of subscriber base by 2-5 times and had also allowed use of dual technology by a single operator.
