As the states of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh agree to work in conjunction with each other to promote tourism, the proposal for a Tourism Bhavan in Chandigarh has already got underway.

While the UT Administration had submitted the project to the Government of India for getting a grant of Rs 10 crore, the government has now given in principle approval for the project. It is to be noted that the proposed Bhavan which is to come up across 2 acres will act as a one- stop destination for tourists and tourism boards as it would house tourism offices of all these states, in addition to those of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

For this purpose the Administration has already started preparing plans to implement the project, the site selection is happening as of now. As per Vivek Atray, director tourism, UT Administration the construction for the project shall begin early next year.

Apart from this, Nehru Centre for Performing Arts, a project which has been neglected for years may also get a fresh lease of life. The administration has once again set its eyes on it. It is to be noted that the Centre shall have facilities for a state-of-the art convention centre and theatres if at all it comes up. For this purpose, the Administration has decided to develop it under PPP mode this time and has already issued tenders in this regard. The project is likely to catalyse an investment of around Rs 20 crore for which the Administration has asked the central government for grant.
