To keep pace with the growth in the tourism sector, Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (Citco) is readying to upgrade all its facilities in Chandigarh. Starting from Hotel Mountview, the only five star hotel in Chandigarh which is all set to don a new look, other properties of Chandigarh Tourism are also getting refurbished.

According to Jasbir Singh Bir, managing director Citco, the project has been undertaken to renovate the hotel’s exterior fa?ade, reception, lobby area, coffee shop and an underground parking at an estimated cost of over 10 crore. “Citco has also planned to provide state of art facilities in health and wellness sphere at the hotel. The health club has been upgraded in to a spa, to be managed on revenue-sharing basis with leading private professionals in the field. A renowned architect from Mumbai has been appointed as a consultant architect to give the health club a facelift,” he said. Major up gradation work to add another 66 rooms is being undertaken in hotel Parkview which shall make it the biggest hotel in Chandigarh with 170 rooms by the mid of 2008.

He further disclosed that with regard to the improvement in the financial and operational parameters of various units, including its prestigious hotels, in the last three years, there has been an overall increase in turnover and profits of Citco. The sales turnover, which was Rs147 crore during the year 2001-2002, is now Rs 290 crore. The turnover has doubled with profit increasing from Rs 304 lakh to Rs1,390 lakh during the corresponding period.
