The Board of Approval, the top policy making body of the government on special economic zones on Friday granted formal approval to Genoma Valley Biotech in Andhra Pradesh and an ITeS SEZ by Shyama Steel Industries Ltd in West Bengal. It also granted in-principle nod to a multi-services SEZ by Limitless Properties Ltd in Tamil Nadu. Two proposals for grant of co-developer status were also approved. Commerce secretary GK Pillai said so far 576 formal approvals have been granted for setting up of special economic zones out of which 319 have been notified. Over Rs 1,08,903 crore had been invested in thesezones, which have generated 3,87,439 jobs, he added.
