The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here today that ?Haryana is on way to becoming an international hub of education with the setting up of an education city near Sonepat?.
Addressing a national conference on The Future of Indian Management Education Sector organized by the Education Promotion Society of India in association with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Hooda said that it was during an interaction with operators of some BPOs in Gurgaon sometime back that he realized that Haryana youths were not found employable and these BPOs instead recruited youngsters from Delhi and elsewhere.
He said that it was that realization that made him plan an education hub, not only of national standards but of international standards. He said that very soon, the education city would attract students from across the globe. He said that four parameters determined the developmental story of a state-the per capita income, per capita investment, per capital expenditure and raising the standard of living of the people. He said that on all these fronts, Haryana was in the forefront. The state with just 1.31 per cent of country?s geographical area, contributed 3.4 per cent to the GDP. He said that in sports, Haryana has proved its mettle as 22 of total 38 medals won by the country at Commonwealth Games had been won by Haryana sports persons. Quoting Assocham survey, he said that 82 per cent of projects in Haryana were in the implementation stage which was highest score by any state in the country.
G.Vishwanthan, President, EPSI and founder of VIT University said that while the government dismantled licence and permit raj in the industry in 1991, the same continues still in education sector. V.Ramaswamy, Global Head, Small and Medium Business, Tata Consultancy Services observed that there was need to leverage technology to bring improvements in education. Dr. P.Chaturvedi, Alternate President, EPS emphasized that there is need to have cooperative environment from policy makers. Prashant Bhalla, Treasurer, EPS suggested synergy between industry and educational institutions to produce skilled professional that industry would lap up. K.K.Khandelwal, IAS, Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister and R.R.Jowel, Principal Secretary, Technical Education were there to respond to the queries of delegates from across the country.
