After its success in 100 countries, Belgium-based food major Puratos is setting up a manufacturing facility in Mumbai. Puratos has presence in more than 100 countries specializing in bakery, pastries and chocolates.
Puratos had been operating from India through importing products from Belgium plant since last five years. The company was supplying to five-star hotels and resorts their ranges of bread, pastries and chocolates.
“Due to growing domestic demand for branded food products, we are going to set up a manufacturing facility in Mumbai,” a Puratos official told FE. Puratos has range of products such as bread improver, semi-finisher products such as emulsifiers and enzymes.
The company was first founded in Brussels, Belgium in 1919 and it claimed to launch the first ever branded bread ‘Pura Malte’ way back in 1923. “We are also looking at introducing all our products to Indian consumers,” the official said. However, the official declined to comment further on the company’s plan for the country. The estimated annual turnover of bakery products, which include bread, biscuits, pastries, cakes, buns and rusk, is estimated to be around Rs 3000 crore.
