The Delhi government seems to be in full swing to drive diesel vehicles off the road. After announcing plans to ban registration of diesel vehicles in the city, the state government?s decision to introduce an environment cess on diesel has set the stage for yet another confrontation between the government and the auto industry.
?All car manufacturers are offering new technology diesel engines that are more cleaner and meet all emission norms. So, a policy that intends to restrict diesel cars is not a right move,? said Ankush Arora, vice-president, General Motors
Asked if it would mean a shift in the policy of automakers as far as diesel cars are concerned, Arora said, ?It?s too early to say and anything will be decided only once we come to know about the exact usage of the fund. Meeting emission norms has always been a challenge for all auto manufacturers and as a result of which all players have been working on alternate fuels like CNG and LPG.?
