Thanks to the growth witnessed in the automobile industry, average automobile engineer salaries have increased by over 15% this year. The increments are expected to rise further next year.

According to staffing firms recruiting the mid-level in the auto sector, the salary range is now in the plush bracket of Rs 10-15 lakh. “It is expected to go up further by 20-30%,” Kamal Karanth, MD, Kelly Services said. With the emergence of new projects and introduction of technological advancements, the focus is more on skilled and experienced human resource today in the auto industry. Experienced candidates moving laterally are being offered 25-30% salary hikes, according to recruiters.

“Engineers in the automotive or electrical or mechanical field are in demand. Some of the firms going for automation, like planning for CAD (computer aided designs) systems, are also recruiting people with IT specializations. Also, people are being hired in sales and marketing as a lot of international players have moved into the local market and to brand the companies to the right target audience; brand managers and brand promoter vacancies are in boom,” Karanth said.
