Notwithstanding the increased prospects of nursery business in the state, the nurseries are not getting adequate support from the government, says the industry.
Highlighting the problems being faced by the nurseries in the state, a big nursery owner Ananta Reddy says that the government is not extending the benefit of ‘free power’ to the nurseries in the urban locations. “Though the nurseries are classified as agriculture activity, the benefit of free power is being denied to us,” says Reddy.
He further said that there are many small and big nurseries around Hyderabad, who are paying large amounts towards lease for the land.
In fact, there is no land available for the industry around Hyderabad, even while the nurseries are receiving orders from other major cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata besides export orders. Another nursery breeder MM Hussain pointed out that the present government had taken away the land given by the previous government.
“We proposed to utilize the land for development of plant material, which can be branded, to export to the international markets,” Hussain said. He urged the government to allocate alternative land around Hyderabad for the purpose.
