The job: At Audi, seeing new products at an early stage still gives me goosebumps and I absolutely love that about my job. I have a fantastic team and my team members have been immensely innovative and successful. This makes me really happy. We are the number one brand in the country in the luxury car market and we have got over 3.6 million Facebook fans, which makes us the first brand in the luxury segment in India to achieve that feat. There is nothing in particular that I hate about my job but I would like to spend more time with my family than I can currently. However, what I may not get in quantity time with them, I try to make it up in quality time.
The weekdays: I have been an early riser since my boys came into my life. I normally rise at 6 am along with my wife and that?s when most of the conversation happens over a cup of coffee. I also get to spend a bit of time with my children while they are getting ready. I am in office by 8 am since I like to get in early and get a few things done. I spend most of the day in meetings or working with the team. The work picks up pace in the afternoon when Audi AG comes online and connects with us. I leave by 7-7:30 pm, at a time when it takes me longer to get home. I have an early dinner with the family, a bit of catch-up and then they are off to bed. I also try and finish some pending work, read a little. Finally by 10 or latest by 10:30 pm my day comes to an end. Tuesdays are a little different for us. On Tuesdays, I get home and we spend an hour with a tutor who teaches us Hindi. I think it?s really a nice thing to do as a family and the kids are picking it up well. I also try and play tennis on Wednesday mornings before work with a coach. It is tough to appreciate bad managers, but ironically, I have personally learnt more from them. It is somehow easier to learn what not to do. I adapt a principal of ?seek first to understand?. This means that it is important first to understand peoples? individual perspective to be able to have a proper discussion with them. I also believe completely in finding and developing the right people, and empowering them to do the best job they can
The weekend: Outside work, my time is predominantly taken up with family. I have two teenage boys and enjoy spending time with them on weekends. The kids are really into soccer, so we are watching a lot of the World Cup. I love all sports, but clearly I love watching more than playing. I love to play golf and tennis several times a week. However I don?t get to play much golf because it?s a time consuming activity, but definitely a great challenge. I also love to travel and immerse myself in new cultures. I have travelled with the family and one of our first trips was to the Taj Mahal, Agra; which was amazing. Then we have also been to Ranthambore and seen the tigers. We also had a great experience in South Africa on game drives, getting so close to some wonderful wildlife. That was amazing. I also like to read on holidays and weekends. I particularly enjoy biographies and autobiographies. I also like to listen to a wide range of music including lounge and retro, chill out, rock, some of those small electronic bands and then the 70s blues. I?m quite happy to put it on Shuffle and listen to the lot. I find that quite relaxing.
The toys: I am a technology buff. In fact my favourite section in a department store is the technology section. I can spend days in there. The iPad is something that is constantly with me as it helps me to connect with the world while on the go.
The logos: I like to wear accessories from Tag Heuer and Mont Blanc. I like to stay at the Oberoi Hotels and Taj Hotels and I like to travel on Emirates Airlines.
