The PM has expressed serious concern about different subsidies (?Vital signs?, Dec 18), and feels the same will have to be done away with. He has conveniently forgotten that there are multitudes in our country still languishing in poverty. The PM and his cabinet colleagues should analyse the maladies of the subsidy systems and try to plug the loopholes in them. It is time to abolish the subsidy raj. Corruption is the problem, not welfare schemes.

Farm fight

It is true that some people are ?more equal? (0l? MK had a farm?, Dec 19). But with a family tussle on for succession, who will get DMK?s farm? There is an indirect fight going on between the DMK and PMK families. And Jaya is waiting.

Timed talk

The piquant part of the PM?s subsidy groan was the timing. After your editorial (?Vital signs? Dec 18), rest assured that OSO will not get tax-free status that?d make it even harder for Veeresh Malik to get a seat that allows him to look for Korosawa angles.
