Apple iPhone has already reached a cult status all around the world. It has captivated the attention of the youth as well as the professionals. Apple?s standard strategy is to launch a new version of their products each year. Hence, even though the iPhone 3GS was launched last year to the world as the third generation iPhone, it came in India only this year, that too on the heels of the next iPhone announcement coming in few months.
There is absolutely no difference in looks between the iPhone 3G and the 3GS. Neither are there any changes in the overall design. The display screen is the same 3.5? capacitive multi-touch with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, but now has an extra Oleophobic display coating that makes cleaning fingerprints easy. It is still one of the best looking phones, though the standard design now seems a bit boring third time in a row.
The 3GS runs on a faster 600MHz processor and comes with 256 MB RAM which is double than the previous generation iPhone. This hardware upgrade clearly shows with the phone running much smoother and faster than the iPhone 3G. The powerful hardware is the reason that the iPhone 3GS is capable of handling multi-tasking using the 4.0 software update once it becomes available later this year. Applications open faster and games run better on the iPhone 3GS as well.
There are a couple of other little upgrades present such as 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, 480p TV output (earlier was 480i), system wide screen zoom and a digital compass with automatic map orientation in Maps app. All this makes the iPhone 3GS a smarter, faster and better phone over its predecessor. It is now being sold in India via Vodafone and Airtel. Go for it if you have the moolah to pick one up at the stores.
