ICC Olympiad 2009, the Indian Chamber of Commerce’s first such event, will be held from February 11 to 15 in the city. Around 32 corporates have confirmed their participation, with the total expected to go beyond 50, according to president Sanjay Budhia.

Eminent sports personalities like Sourav Ganguly, Ahktar Ali and Chuni Goswami would take part in it.

It will have both outdoor and indoor games like badminton, volleyball, chess, and football. A torch run will kick off the event.

ICC deputy director CK Iyer said WHO conducted a research last year that covered 35,000 Indian corporates in 10 different sectors and found that a considerable number are suffering from hypertension owing to excessive work pressure, 47% were overweight and 10% diabetic. Therefore, the basic idea behind the Olympiad is that executives get the opportunity to take part in sports, something they rarely get the time to enjoy.

At present, the event will take place only in the city at the Sports Authority of India complex with companies like Cognizant and Hindustan Petroleum participating.
