Tata Motors has emerged as an important carmaker in India, setting standards for safety and powertrain offerings. Products such as the Tata Nexon and Tata Punch, have been good sellers and even chart toppers. However, over the recent months, the Nexon sales have seen a drop, while the Punch manages to battle on single-handedly.
In August 2024, Tata Motors’ PV sales accounted for 44,142 units in total, a negative growth of 3 percent when compared to August 2023 sales, which stood at 45,515 units. Let’s take a look at the sales breakup.
Tata Motors August 2024 sales breakup
In August 2024, Tata’s best-seller was the Punch, having registered sales of 15,643 units, and witnessing a YoY growth of 8 percent. The second-best seller for Tata was the Nexon, which registered 12,289 units of sales and saw a YoY growth of 53 percent.
The Other SUVs in Tata’s lineup also posted positive growth. The Harrier registered positive growth of 12 percent with sales accounting to 1,892 units, while the Safari witnessed the highest YoY sales growth for Tata Motors, although it had a low customer base. The Tata Safari registered sales of 1,951 units and saw a YoY growth of 91 percent.
The story wasn’t the same for the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz though. All three models saw a drastic YoY sales decline owing to customer preferences. With the increase in demand for SUVs of all sizes, the hatchback and sedan segments are taking a blow for all carmakers, including Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
In August 2024, the Tata Tiago registered sales of 4,733 units, while the Tigor’s sales stood at 1,148 units and the Altroz registered sales of 3,031 units. The latter two also saw sales decline of 61 percent each.
