Centre mulls additional tax on sin goods after GST hiked to 40%
The GST rejig will impose a 40% tax rate on sin goods, with additional levies to maintain high tax incidence. These measures will be implemented after the compensation cess ends in October-November, according to CBIC chairman Sanjay Kumar Agarwal. Luxury items like cars and bikes will be exempt, while the tax hike on sin goods is projected to generate an extra Rs 45,000 crore in annual revenue.
