India sets its own air standards; WHO air quality guidelines not binding standards: Govt
The government clarifies that there is no official global ranking for air quality and India has its own standards for 12 pollutants. The country conducts an annual Swachh Vayu Survekshan to assess and rank 130 cities, with top-performing cities recognized on National Swachh Vayu Diwas. WHO guidelines are used as advisory values for protecting public health.
