The new Toyota Camry goes on sale in India, priced at Rs 48 lakh, ex-showroom. This is an increase of Rs 1.83 lakh over the previous model, and when we look at what’s changed, the price hike is negligible. The new Toyota Camry is completely new, and here’s how it compares with the older-gen Camry Hybrid that was on sale in India.

Toyota Camry new vs old — Design and dimension

The new Camry, as mentioned earlier, is all new and not a mere facelift. The car features an all-new design with what Toyota calls a ‘hammer head’ front. The new Camry is much sleeker from every angle compared to the old one and headlights are now LED units instead of the projectors the older vehicle had.

The new Camry sees a change in terms of dimensions as well. The new car is longer but has managed to shed weight. In terms of other measurements, the width, height, and wheelbase of the new Camry are identical to the older generation Camry.

Toyota Camry new vs old — Features and safety

The new Toyota Camry ups the list of features as well. The new car gets a 12.3-inch infotainment system compared to the older version’s 9-inch system, a new 12.3-inch instrument console, a dual-tone interior, a three-zone climate control system with controls for the rear-seat passengers, it now gets the Toyota i-Connect feature, and more. A few features carried over from the older Camry include reclinable rear seats, a 9-speaker audio system, the sunroof, and the 10-way power-adjustable seats.

On the safety front, the older generation Camry had 9 airbags, along with ABS, EBD, stability control, and reverse parking camera. The new Toyota Camry gets the same number of airbags, along with a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS, making the car safer.

Toyota Camry new vs old — Engine specifications

On the powertrain front, the new Camry gets the same 2.5-litre petrol engine, however, it is paired to the company’s fifth-generation hybrid system. The result is more power and fuel efficiency, while the torque output remains the same. The gearbox is an eCVT unit, the same as the older version of the Camry.
