It is always good to hear an iconic name make a comeback, like the Baleno, and now the Sierra. Tata Motors has filed design patents for what looks like the Sierra, a five-door SUV, which is likely to go into production soon.

The Tata Sierra concept was first showcased at the Indian Auto Expo in 2020, and later in 2023 as well, featuring a boxy design, an upright grille, sleek headlights, and sliding doors at the rear. The design patents, however, reveal a 5-door SUV with traditional rear doors, while maintaining the muscular profile of the concept.

Apart from the design, no other details have been revealed and the SUV is expected to come with an all-electric powertrain. Or, Tata Motors can take a similar decision as it did with the Nexon to have the Sierra in both electric and ICE versions, catering to a wider audience.

If this is the case, the 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Harrier and Safari could find its way here. Also, given that Tata does not have a 4X4 vehicle in its lineup, the Sierra could feature a part-time four-wheel drive system as well, pitting the vehicle against the Mahindra Scorpio N. However, these are all just possibilities.
