New MG Windsor EV Launch in India Highlights: MG Motor has launched its third electric vehicle in India today. Called the Windsor EV, it is essentially a rebadged Wuling Cloud EV sold in China. Moreover, this new model holds great significance since this is the first launch since MG Motor India joined hands with Jindal Steel Works (JSW).
The Windsor EV is going to be the first all-electric multi-purpose vehicle or as MG likes to call it CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle). The new EV is priced in between the Comet EV and the ZS EV, starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. Here’s a rundown of all the key highlights from the launch of MG Windsor EV.

Contrary to earlier reports, MG Windsor EV does not come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). However, it is packed with safety features six airbags, ABS with EBD, all four disk brakes, front and rear parking sensors, ESC, and 360-degree camera.
MG Windsor EV comes loaded with iSmart connected car technolgy with over 80 features with over 100 AI-based voice commands, out of which more than 30 voice commands offered in Hinglish.
MG Motor is offering free charging at public chargers through the eHUB by MG application for one year. Offered exclusively with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) module, the company claims savings of 40% of the fuel costs of conventional vehicles.
MG Motor is offering a class-leading boot space of 604 litres. However, it is yet to be ascertained if this figure pertains with the rear seats up or folded.
MG Motor will be offering the Windsor EV in three variants Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. There are four colour options on offer namely Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.
MG Motor is offering multiple charging options with the Windsor EV. This includes a 3.3 kW CCS2 connection that takes 13.8 hours for the battery to rejuventate. Other charging options available are 7.4 kW and 50 kW, which take 6.5 hours and 55 minutes, respectively. The battery on offer in Windsor EV can be charged up to 45 kW DC fast charger.
Powering the MG Windsor EV is a 38kWh LFP battery with prismatic cells sending energy to a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. The motor returns an output of 134 bhp and 200 Nm torque. Estimated range on a single charge is 331 km (ARAI). There are four drive modes on offer: Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport.
MG Motor has also introduced an Assured buyback policy with the Windsor EV where the company claims that a customer can get a return of 60 percent of the cost after 3 years of ownership.
MG Motor has finally taken the wraps off the Windsor EV. The battery-powered CUV has been priced at an extraordinary starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). On top of this, customers need to pay Rs 3.50 per km for the battery rental module. Bookings for the Windsor EV commences 3 October, while test drives will begin from 13 October 2024. Deliveries are likely to commence soon.
Another significant introduction is Battery as a Service (BaaS) which is a first for an electric car in India. MG Motor says the Windsor EV will be exclusively offered with the BaaS module. Custome will be charged Rs 3.5 per kilometer which brings down the cost of ownership of the EV significantly, at par with a compact IC engine-powered SUV.
MG Motor has introduced a first-in-India Lifetime Warranty for an EV with the Windsor EV. This is exclusive for the first set of owners only and applicable for unlimited kilometers.
The dimensions of MG Windsor EV are now reveled. It measures 2,700mm in wheelbase; 1,850mm in width, and 1,677mm in height.
Like the ZS EV, the Windsor is expected to be powered by a 50.3 kWh battery and should offer a range in the region of 460 km. It has a single motor mounted on the front axle and has an output of 134 bhp and 200 Nm. There are reports that the entry-level trim of the Windsor EV could get a 37.9 kWh battery with a range of around 350 km.
Like all MG models, the upcoming Windsor EV will be packed with all the bells and whistles. The company has already shared a few teasers of the MG Windsor EV where some of the features have been revealed. These include a panoramic glass roof or a moonroof, a 15.6-inch infotainment system (the largest in segment), and a 135-degree recline for the rear seats.
Inspired by the Cloud EV‘s design language, the Windsor EV is set to feature a sleek split headlight design, complete with connected LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that add a touch of modernity. The side profile exudes a sense of minimalism, with flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels that create a clean and streamlined look.
The charging flap is discreetly positioned on the side, below the A-pillar, for easy access. At the rear, a roof spoiler and connected LED tail lamps create a sporty and futuristic appearance. To further enhance its visual appeal, the CUV boasts blacked-out pillars, expansive quarter glass, and a panoramic roof, all of which come together to give it a distinctive and sophisticated look.
The Windsor EV is crossover utility vehicle (CUV) that will be slotted in between the Comet EV and the ZS EV. It is hybrid between a hatchback and an MPV. In China, it is sold as Wuling Cloud EV.
The Windsor EV will be the first model to be launched in India after MG Motor India joined hands with Jindal Steel Works. Earlier in March 2024, MG Motor announced the new merger with JSW. Chinese automaker SAIC Motor, parent company of MG Motor, sold 51% stake in its Indian subsidiary, MG Motor India, to a consortium of Indian investors led by the diversified conglomerate JSW Group.

The joint venture between SAIC and JSW Group is poised to shape the future of MG Motor India, leveraging the strengths of both partners to drive growth and innovation in the Indian automotive market.
