Citroen has officially announced the debut of its upcoming compact coupe SUV in India slated to take place on 27 March. The French carmaker has also teased the vehicle’s side rear profile indicating a sharply receding roofline of a coupe.
Citroen is calling the 4-door coupe SUV ‘Basalt Vision’ which suggests that the model to be showcased tomorrow will not likely be the final production-spec model. It has also been reported that Citroen will only reveal the exterior styling of the Basalt Vision, while interiors will be revealed at a later stage.
Citroen Basalt Vision compact SUV teased
The teaser image released reveals a couple of key visual highlights such as squar-ish LED headlamps, a ducktail spoiler extending from the bootlid, and a shark fin antenna. Like the C3 Aircross, the Basalt Vision will also be priced very competitively, hence, we can expect some cost-cutting.
It will be the second SUV offering from Citroen in the compact C-segment after the more-traditional looking C3 Aircross and is based on the same CMP (common modular platform) architecture. Upon launch, the Basalt Vision will take on other C-segment SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, but more importantly the upcoming Tata Curvv ICE which will also flaunt a coupe design.
Test mules of the Citroen coupe SUV have been spotted on a few occasions in recent months. It is most likely to share its underpinnings, equipment and powertrain with the C3 Aircross. This means the interior layout is also expected to be familiar to the current line of Citroen, however, it will only get two rows of seats.
Powering the Citroen Basalt Vision will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that pushes out 109 bhp and 190 Nm (215 Nm in AT) of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There will be no diesel engine on offer.
