2023 witnessed quite a few launches, especially in the passenger vehicle segment. From hatchbacks and SUVs to electric vehicles (EVs), cars belonging to all segments marked their presence into the market. Although cars have become quite expensive in recent years, there are still many options under the Rs 10 lakh mark.
Let us look at all the cars priced under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) that were launched in the calendar year 2024.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Launched in the first quarter of 2024, prices for Maruti Suzuki Fronx start at Rs 7.47 lakh (ex-showroom). A subcompact crossover, the Fronx is based on the same platform as Maruti Baleno. Even though visually it appears to be a shrunken Maruti Grand Vitara. It gets two engine options– a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol unit. Gearbox options include a five-speed manual unit, an AMT unit, and a six-speed torque converter automatic unit.
MG Comet EV
MG Motor launched its entry-level EV named Comet in April this year. It was the second mass-market entry-level battery-powered car to launch in 2023, after Citroen eC3 which is priced between Rs 11.50 and Rs 12.43 lakh. However, the tallboy electric hatch from MG managed to undercut the French brand with prices starting at Rs 7.98 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
It is powered by a 41 bhp electric motor which derives its energy from a 17.3 kWh battery pack, and offers a claimed range of 230 km. Although it is priced closely to Tata Tiago EV, it currently has no direct rivals in the market.
Hyundai Exter
Hyundai forayed into the micro-SUV space by launching the Exter in July this year. Rivalling the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter sits below the Venue in the company’s SUV lineup. With prices starting at Rs 6.00 lakh (ex-showroom), Exter is based on the same platform as i10 and also shares the same engine and transmission options as its hatchback sibling.
Citroen C3 Aircross
Citroen launched the C3 Aircross in September this year with prices starting from Rs 9.99 lakh and going up to Rs 12.34 lakh (both, ex-showroom). The latest C-segment compact SUV in India, it is the only SUV in its model to offer a 7-seater configuration as an option. It is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. This motor is tuned to produce 109 bhp and 190 Nm of peak torque.
Hyundai i20 facelift
Hyundai launched a mid-cycle facelift of the third-gen i20 in September 2023. The updated i20 gets subtle variations in styling as well as some mechanical changes. The latest iteration of the regular i20, priced Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 82 bhp and 113 NM of peak torque. This motor comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
The sportier i20 N Line, priced Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties on the sporty hatch are handled by a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission unit.
Tata Nexon facelift
Tata Motors introduced a comprehensive facelifted Nexon in September this year. The updated subcompact crossover over gets a significant exterior makeover and plenty of feature additions. Prices for the new Nexon start at Rs 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by either a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel mill.
Both motors can be had with either a 6-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The petrol mill also comes with additional transmission options including a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic unit.
