
Indian Motorcycle was originally founded in 1897 as Hendee Manufacturing Company by George M. Hendee to produce bicycles. The name was later changed to Indian Motocycle Company in 1923. Indian produced its first motorcycle prototype in 1901 and in 1902, sold its first motorcycle to public. Since then, Indian Motorcycle has introduced several models including the very popular Chief and Scout. In 2011, Polaris Industries acquired Indian Motorcycle and launched the all-new Chief line-up in 2013 powered by the current Thunderstroke 111 inches (1811cc) V-twin engine. Currently, Indian Motorcycle has following motorcycles in their line-up in India – Scout, Scout Sixty, Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse, Chief Vintage, Springfield, Chieftain, Chieftain Dark Horse and the Roadmaster.
