Motorsports is slowly gaining traction across the country with various forms of racing events being organised across the country over the past few months. The latest spectacle is the inaugural Formula 4 held in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Thousands of spectators were enthralled by speeding Formula 4 cars whizzing around the banks of Dal Lake on Sunday.
The event was part of a demo run organised on a 1.7 km track from Lalit Ghat to Nehru Park in the city. Fans were witness to stunts performed by professional Formula 4 drivers. Hundreds of enthusiastic youths lined the picturesque Boulevard road at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range to witness the event.
Formula 4 in Kashmir gets PM attention
The motorsport spectacle even caught the attention of the country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who expressed his joy on X (formerly known as Twitter). He said, “This is very heartening to see. It will help further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. India offers great opportunities for motorsports to thrive and Srinagar is right on top of the places where it can happen!”
The Formula 4 racing demonstration event was organised by Formula 4 in collaboration with the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India, which is affiliated to the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), under the aegis of Kashmir’s Tourism Department. Elaborate arrangements were made for the event, which commenced at 10 am and concluded at 2 pm.
During the demo run, two Formula 4 race cars taking part hit the temporary barricades erected for the safety of spectators. Several spectators were reportedly hit by debris near the barricades, but thankfully no one was injured in the accident.
